UPCOMING WORKSHOP EVENTS
Anger Management
Angry outbursts, impulsivity and irritability in children can impact on the quality of relationships with family, peers and school. This can lead to further anger and frustration, leading to a vicious cycle. This course provides psycho-education concerning the causes of anger, and practical psychological skills for children, and adolescents, and their parents to successfully understand triggers for angry outbursts and how to prevent them. Adolescents and parents are introduced to cognitive behavioural strategies, learning how to successfully manage angry outbursts and irritability.
Anxiety / Worry Management
Children and teenagers can experience anxiety, worry and panic concerning their future, school work, exams, being separated from parents, or worry about social relationships with peers. This can result in sleeplessness, restlessness, shortness of breath, feeling sick, avoidance of social activities, low mood, school refusal and under achievement. Children’s anxiety can create anxiety for parents, who may feel unable to contain their children’s fears and worries.

Assertiveness / Self-Esteem Building
Low assertiveness, low confidence, and low self-esteem can have a negative impact on a child and teenager’s performance at school; their relationships with friends and family; and their willingness to get involved in activities. Low self-esteem and low assertiveness can be a result of low confidence or from bullying and teasing. Low self-esteem can be maintained by negative patterns of thinking e.g., “I can’t do that” “I’m not good enough” “What’s the point?” “I’d better not try or I will fail”, “Nobody likes me” “Other people are better”. This psycho-educational course helps young people to identify and challenge their own thinking errors, helping the child’s motivation, confidence and resilience.
Relaxation Sessions: Parents and Adolescents
ABC Psychology offers Mindfulness based relaxation groups for children and parents to attend, in evenings and at weekends. The sessions are designed to offer practical skills for children and their parents who can learn together relaxation techniques to reduce anxiety and arousal. Learning relaxation skills can help children’s concentration levels, sleep patterns, and general well-being. In turn, families can feel more relaxed and enjoy better quality interactions. The relaxation sessions are 45 minutes.
